Bull Fertility
-----------------------------
Due to farmer concerns about bull fertility, we decided to get all our bulls tested. So now you can buy your bull with the confidence that he has passed a fertility test.
Vaccination programme
-----------------------------------------
Because we sell bulls and replacement heifers to other farmers herd health became a big issue for us. We didn't want to unknowingly sell any potential problem to our customers.
Our vet advised us to blood test all our adult stock for BVD and tissue sample new born calves. We have done this for 4 years now with no P.I. The herd was clear.
However we were advised to vaccinate for everything, BVD, IBR, salmonella, lepto, to protect the bulls if sold into a herd with underlying problems from any of the aforementioned.
Herd composition today
-----------------------------------------
50% Pedigree Friesian, 30% Pedigree Norwegian Red and 20% trial group of crossbreed animals.
E.B.I.
-----------
Kealfinchion Herd has an EBI of €206 ( March 2020 )
and was number 48 on the ICBF TOP 200 HERDS RANKED ON EBI in Jan 2017 .
As of Jan 2018 ICBF no longer publish the top 200 herds list.
Check for Inbreeding
-------------------------------------
If you are signed up to ICBF Herdplus you can check our bulls for inbreeding in your herd by entering the bulls full tag number (including IE) here.
Selection of HF x Norwegian Red cows on the farm which were part of the original Moorepark cross breeding trial.

Pedigree registration status
Because we source allot of our semen from New Zeeland Genetics many of those bulls are not allowed pedigree registration here by the IHFA. They are classified as Supplementary Register bulls i.e. their progeny will revert back to A.S.R. status. The bottom line is ...if you are interested in registering your calves with the I.H.F.A pick a bull that can be pedigree registered.
The genetics of these bulls are still as excellent as their EBI depicts and ICBF data is exactly the same as any other bull. You will find most bulls from New Zeeland in the AI studs are now Supplementary Register.
The Kealfinchion Herd has had several bulls in AI over the years.
